News Briefs for January 22, 2025
City of Whiteville and Columbus County officials are urging everyone to stay off the roads tonight. What little ice and snow that melted today will refreeze tonight, causing extremely hazardous conditions. Snow plows are being used on many area streets and major roadways, but most secondary roads remain icy.
One of the first storm related wrecks was in Whiteville Tuesday evening. A Chadbourn driver collided with a snowplow at Washington and Madison Streets in Whiteville. No serious injuries were reported.
Firefighters from Brunswick and other departments responded to a structure fire at Bill Hooks Road and U.S. 701 North Tuesday evening. We’ve reached out to the Fire Marshall for more information.
