It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Johnny Lee McPherson on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the age of 79.

Mr. McPherson was a distinguished veteran, a respected professional in the finance industry, and a proud member of the Shriners.

Born on January 24, 1945, in Columbus County, North Carolina, Mr. McPherson was raised with strong values of service, integrity, and perseverance. After graduating from Hallsboro High School and the University of North Carolina Pembroke, he enlisted in the US Army and rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class. Mr. McPherson served his country honorably for twenty years, earning the respect and admiration of his fellow servicemen. He transferred to the Retired Reserve in recognition of his honorable service and his continued interest in the defense of his country in 1993.

 

Following his military service, Mr. McPherson transitioned to the private sector, where he built a successful career in finance, working with Spartan Mills and NCNB in Charlotte, North Carolina. Known for his dedication and work ethic, Mr. McPherson earned a reputation as a trusted advisor and mentor.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. McPherson was deeply committed to his friends and family. As a member of the Shriners, he worked tirelessly to support charitable causes, especially the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Mr. McPherson’s dedication to improving the lives of others will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Mr. McPherson is survived by his former wife, Patsy Larkin; his son, Ronald Gregory McPherson; his daughter, Tammy Lachelle Miller; his grandchildren, Brittney Dayne Miller and Meagan Lachelle Burroughs; and his great-grandchildren, Maliyah Lachelle Wright and Kaliyah Jamal Jordan.American Flag

Additionally, Mr. McPherson was preceded in death by his two brothers, Melvin McPherson Jr. and J. Wilbur McPherson.

A funeral service with full military honors will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Peacock Funeral Home’s Chapel, Whiteville, North Carolina, with Rev. Ronnie Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Columbus Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
