The first highway fatality of the year in Columbus claimed the life of a Clarendon woman this morning.
Misty Cribb, 35, of Cribbtown Road, died after her 2010 Dodge was struck head on by a 2013 Jeep driven by Carolina Green, 16, of Chadbourn.
Sgt. K. McVicker of the Highway Patrol said Green was heading north on Peacock Road when she crossed the centerline shortly before 7:45 a.m. Cribb attempted to avoid the crash by moving to the right shoulder, but was struck head on.
Cribb was pronounced dead at the scene.
Green was transported to Columbus Regional with non-life-threatening injuries.
Cribb’s five-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old male in her car were transported to New Hanover. The girl was transferred to UNC Hospitals with major injuries, according to family members.
McVicker said there was no evidence of impairment or distracted driving. The wreck is under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
Cribb was an account executive at Columbuscountynews.com.
“Misty was the definition of vivacious,” said CCN Managing Editor Jefferson Weaver. “She loved her job, and loved talking to people. Every client was special to her. She was an absolutely devoted mother and deeply loved her parents. Misty was our family, too.
“She will be deeply missed.”
