Our climate statistics for Monday, January 27 at my weather station in Whiteville shows that we had a high temperature of 48°F at 7:38 PM and a low of 34.8°F at 1:52 AM. We picked up 0.46 inch of rainfall, which is right in the range that I had predicted (a third to half an inch). The Bottom Line–

Our rainy, dreary weather of yesterday is long gone, and today is going to seem like a whole different season. It is often said here in NC, if you don’t like the weather, just wait a day or two, it’ll change.

There are some areas of snow that are really hanging tough, and there may be some very localized ground fog early today… but the sun will be in full force with highs up near 60 for the first time in what seems like forever.  (That snow holding on for dear life… yeah it’s gone by the end of today.)  High pressure slips off the Florida coast tonight, setting up a west-southwest flow for Wednesday. That means bright sunshine and warm temps. It’ll be a little breezy at times with the downsloping winds, and I’m going just a touch higher than the Model Output Statistics; I think we’ll touch 70 degrees on Wednesday.

A little “backdoor” cold front drops down from the north Wednesday night. The only weather impacts from that are for cooler temps on your Thursday, with more sunshine and highs around 60.

Clouds start to build in on Thursday night as that bowling-ball low I talked about yesterday spins out of the desert southwest. This starts to open up and phase into a significant storm system that will impact much of the eastern half of the country Friday into the weekend. A warm front lifts north over the area early Friday… I think we’ll stay dry much of Friday but there will be lots of clouds around. Our highs jump well into the 70s Friday afternoon.

Most of the energy from this storm system will lift well to our north. Three separate areas of low pressure lift north/east over the Great Lakes, dragging a cold front across the area sometime Saturday. I believe we’ll have some showers in here Friday night and Saturday, but just how much rain we’ll get is still up for some debate. The ensembles have a very wide range of solutions, so I’m not going to micromanage that this far out.

Here’s your Freedom Insurance Today-Plus-Five Outlook…

That’ll do it for today, my friends. Thank you for your time, thank you for supporting Freedom Insurance, and as always, take care.
