A Williams Township School substitute teacher has been accused of using racial slurs toward children at the school. County schools spokesperson Kelly Jones said the incident is under investigation. Civil rights activist John Barnette met with parents and the school’s principal behind closed doors Tuesday morning.

 

Winter weather is moving into the area. Wednesday will see dangerously cold temperatures and the possibility of ice accumulations throughout our area tomorrow afternoon and evening. NC State Highway crews are brining roads ahead of the storm. Bladen County schools will be closed. The Columbus County and Whiteville City school systems are monitoring conditions. Carolina Adventist Academy will have a virtual learning day for Wednesday, February 19. All afterschool activities have been cancelled in the county schools.

 

Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing person. Ervin Hakeem Johnson was last seen at 3:00 a.m. February 13 outside a Whiteville area residence. Johnson was wearing a crop top and gray shorts, and has black, red, purple and white braids extending past the waist. Johnson was not carrying a phone, wallet or bank cards. Anyone with information about Johnson is asked to call 910.640.1428.
