The county’s second highway fatality took the life of a Clarendon woman on Tuesday.
Mary Godwin, 68, died after running off the road and crashing into a culvert on Old Stake Road near Tabor City, said Trooper Z. Faulk of the State Highway Patrol.
She was traveling north when her 2013 Chevrolet Impala went off the right shoulder for unknown reasons. The car overturned and came to rest in a field. The wreck occurred just before 10 a.m.
Godwin was not wearing a seatbelt, Faulk said. She was transported to Novant New Hanover, where she later died of her injuries. She lived on Williams Road.
The first fatality of the year occurred Jan. 6, when Misty Cribb’s Dodge was struck head-on by a Jeep. Cribb died in the crash, which seriously injured two children in the car. Carolina Green, 16, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle in that wreck.
