After serving 579 people in 219 households, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina is coming back March 3.
The free food pop up market will be from 10 a.m. until noon at Cerro Gordo Baptist Church, 257 Church St., Cerro Gordo.

Extension Director Howard Wallace said the Food Bank is bringing several additional pallets of groceries this time, since demand exceeded supply at the last event.
“There were individuals still in line when the food ran out,” he said. “This demonstrates the critical need for this program in western Columbus County.” Out of the 579 people helped at the last event, 178 were children and 205 seniors.
There are no income, residency or ID requirements for the pop-up market, Wallace said. It is asked that participants bring their own boxes and bags if at all possible.
“This event is open to all who need assistance,” Wallace said. “This continued partnership with the Food Bank reinforces the importance of expanding food distribution opportunities in our area. Their team is eager to build upon the success of the first event and explore ways to bring additional locations to Columbus County in the future.”
