The Frosty Freeze fundraiser event is set to bring some chilly fun and community spirit to Southeastern Community College on March 4, with all proceeds benefiting the college’s ambassador program and athletics.
The event is a collaborative effort between the SCC Ambassadors and the Athletics department to raise money and showcase SCC success stories from its participants. Nicky Hobbs and Dawn Williamson are the instructor participants, with Isaiah Johnson and Markell Simmons representing the students.
The Frosty Freeze event, which first emerged as part of the college’s Winter Wonderland celebration two years ago, has now become a major fundraiser, thanks to the partnership between the Ambassadors and Athletics. The participant earning the most donations will not fall victim to the icy waters of the dunking booth.
Cristian Wood, an SCC Ambassador Advisor and business administration instructor, is excited about the collaboration.
“This event is a great way for both our student ambassadors and athletes to come together for a cause that directly benefits their programs,” Wood said. “Not only will we be raising funds to help cover operating expenses, but it’s also an opportunity for students to develop leadership skills while giving back to the college community.”
Wood, who worked closely with student ambassadors, athletic coaches, players and the marketing team to bring the event to life, explained that the Frosty Freeze is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a chance for students to grow and work together.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the Ambassadors and athletes collaborate,” she said. “It’s going to be inspiring to watch them grow together through this experience, all while raising funds for their programs.”
The participants for the event were selected by SCC leadership to showcase SCC graduates and current students who embody the success stories and achievements of the college’s student body, Wood said.
“Each participant has shown incredible dedication, and we are grateful for their enthusiasm,” Wood said. “Taking on a challenge like this, especially in the winter, shows their commitment to both their programs and their community.”
Wood also encouraged the broader SCC community to get involved in the event. “There are several ways to support Frosty Freeze—whether it’s by donating to a participant, spreading the word on social media, or simply showing up on March 4 at 3 p.m. to join us in person,” she said. “The more people who participate, the bigger impact we can have.”
Wood said planning for the event began months ago, with the Ambassadors, Athletics department, and college leadership working together to get everything in motion. All participants created videos explaining their own SCC success story and why they should be saved from the cold water. Those videos are shared across SCC social media accounts on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.
“The Ambassadors, advisors, coaches, and the Athletic Director, Karlyn Stephens, all came together to get this event approved and on our campus calendar,” Wood explained. “From there, our student ambassadors and athletes have been taking on the responsibility of making the event a success.”
As the date approaches, excitement is building. “We’re thrilled to see the support from both the student body and faculty,” Wood said. “This event isn’t just about raising money—it’s about fostering a sense of community and showing the true spirit of SCC.”
Those looking for a fun activity to watch on Mar. 4 at 3 p.m., SCC invites you to campus. Wood encourages everyone to come out, watch the event live and be part of the fun.
“This is an exciting, impactful event, and I can’t wait to see everyone come together for a great cause,” she said.
