School Threat Investigated

A student at South Columbus High School is being questioned after an alleged threat of mass violence” Sunday.
The sheriff’s office reported that County Schools Supt. Eddie Beck contacted detectives Sunday after the juvenile reportedly sent a threatening message using a school-issued computer.
School officials made contact with the suspect’s mother, who secured the machine until deputies arrived.
“The student was reportedly upset after being placed in a self-contained class,” the report said.
Self-contained classes allow students to remain with a single teacher throughout the school day. Different systems use self-contained classes for students with special needs, learning challenges or occasionally, disciplinary problems. The report did not specify why the child was in the class.
A welfare check at the student’s residence will be conducted, and officials are speaking with both the student and the guardian.
This case remains active as the investigation continues.
