Firefighters and the Forest Service are working to contain a wildfire off Bud Stephens Road this afternoon (Wednesday).
The blaze was referred to as a “full on forest fire” by the Forest Service around 4:30 p.m.
In addition multiple fire departments, the NCFS has deployed heavy equipment to prevent the fire from impacting a nearby farm.
City and county emergency officials, along with the N.C. Forest Service, warned this morning that today (Feb. 26) would be a high danger fire day in Columbus County. Low humidity, high winds and extremely dry conditions will make for dangerous fire conditions throughout the rest of the week.
Columbus County is two inches below average rainfall for the year, on top of a seven-plus inch deficit from last year.

Above, an Evergreen firefighter awaits instructions. Below, Klondike was also one of the volunteer fire departments called to the blaze.
