The man who shot at and threatened a repo truck driver will serve 84-113 months in prison.
Ronald Allan Keaton was convicted March 12 in Columbus County Superior Court on charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, armed robbery and discharging a firearm during a crime, according to a release from the District Attorney’s Office.
On May 28, 2020, Daniel Merenda, a town truck and repossession driver, went to Keaton’s Riegelwood home to pick up a vehicle. Keaton came out of the home with a firearm, according to testimony, and fired twice at Merenda.
“Then the defendant put the gun to the victim’s head and threatened to ‘blow his brains out’ if he did not leave the car,” District Attorney Jon David said in a press release.
Merenda and his partner then unhooked the car and fled the scene, calling 911. The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office arrested Keaton without incident.
Keaton was convicted in 2020 of felony marijuana convictions, and had a prior history of drug and driving offenses.
David thanked the CCSO, ADA Heather Brittain, Legal Assistant Jason Britt, and the jurors of Columbus County for their work on the case.
