Porch pirates are a plague on every community in the state, and a bill passed by the state house will increase punishments for mail theft. Under House Bill 34 , defendants will face harsher punishment for mail larceny, as opposed to others types of theft.
The bill would mean perpetrators could be sentenced at one class level higher than the usual sentence for larceny, so even misdemeanor larceny would become a felony for sentencing if the item was being shipped via the Post Office or other service.
