Wall That Heals Needs Local Volunteers

The Wall That Heals needs volunteers during its visit to the Veterans Memorial Park, set for April 24-27.
Angela Norris of the park said 200 volunteers are needed to serve four-hour shifts around the clock, as well as helping set up and tear down the display. Volunteers under 18 must have adult supervision. All volunteers will receive training before starting a shift.
The wall is a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., which contains the names of more than 50,000 U.S. servicemen and women killed in the Vietnam War. Volunteers will help guide visitors through the display, which includes an education center, displays of items left at the memorial in Washington and a digital slideshow of area veterans in addition to the wall. The Wall travels across the country throughout the year, and will be coming to Columbus County from Mississippi.
Hundreds of veteran motorcycle club members will escort the wall through Whiteville on April 23.
Deadline to apply to volunteer is March 25. Norris said a welcome ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. April 24 at the park, and a special ceremony recognizing Agent Orange Awareness will be April 25 at sunset.
