News Briefs for April 6, 2025
Jeanne McPherson announced Friday that she will challenge Ricky Bullard for the district six seat on the Columbus County Board of Commissioners. McPherson is secretary of the county Republican party, and lives in Beaverdam. Bullard has been on the county board for 20 years.
Departing Health Department Director Kim Smith will introduce Daniel Buck to the Columbus County Commissioners tonight as her replacement. Buck has been an assistant at the health department since 2020, when he came on board to help with the county’s pandemic response. Smith is retiring after 20 years with the department.
Whiteville City Council on Tuesday will hear updates on the city budget, the Lee and Franklin Streets improvement projects, and the airport sewer expansion.
