Southeastern Community College and The Town of Chadbourn have always had close ties, and this year’s N.C. Strawberry Festival will make those connections even closer. The college is being honored as the Parade Marshal for the 92nd Annual Strawberry Festival Parade, set for May 3, at 11:00 a.m.
Republican legislators are in a showdown with Governor Josh Stein over a request for a restraining order to block changes to the State Board of Elections. Without court action, elections board appointments would shift on May 1 from Stein to State Auditor Dave Boliek.
A bill in the state senate would make it a felony to sell or trade embalming fluid to anyone outside the funeral industry. The Rakim Shackleford Embalming Fluid Act seeks to address the growing problem of the preservative being used to enhance the effects of illegal drugs.
