A Gaston Sellers Road woman was killed in a two car wreck on U.S. 701 Monday evening. Betty Stevens, age 74, died when Shavonna Vereen of Pine Circle Drive rear ended the Stevens vehicle at a high rate of speed.
A mother of two was found shot to death in her apartment in Covey Run yesterday, according to Whiteville Police. The woman’s name has not been released by Whiteville Police. It was the second homicide in less than 36 hours in the City of Whiteville.
Jaquez Cribbs died of gunshot wounds at an area hospital Sunday morning. Someone opened fire on his vehicle on JK Powell Boulevard around 9:00 a.m, Cribbs was struck by gunfire and crashed into another vehicle at Washington Street and JK Powell Blvd.
Fun-ctionz event venue in Downtown Whiteville was closed by the fire marshal Monday. Shots rang out in front of the business around 2:00 a.m. Sunday. The business was illegally operating as a gathering place at the time of the incident. The owners had been warned repeatedly that gatherings were not allowed without the proper permits and inspection.
