Man Charged After $48,000 Mistake

Jaqun Miller (CCSO)

Two wrongs don’t make a right, as a Tabor City man found out after a big paycheck turned into big trouble Tuesday.
Jaqun Rico Miller, 18, was held under $10,000 secured bond, charged with felony larceny and possession of a firearm on educational property, detention center records show. His address was listed as 306 N. Lewis St. Tabor City.
Law enforcement was contacted by the Chief Interrogation Officer of DMA Industries, where Miller was employed, the report said, after he was mistakenly paid a $48,512 bonus. The bonus was paid due to a clerical error. The report said the company immediately tried to reverse the error but failed. They then called and sent text messages to Miller, who did not respond, and attempted to contact him through his father. The funds were not returned, the report said.
Deputies contacted Miller’s father at his residence in Tabor City, but he said he did not know Miller’s location. Deputies saw him in a vehicle on the property, but he attempted to flee when they tried to speak to him. Warrants were then taken out for his arrest on the larceny charge.
In an unrelated incident, Miller was found to be in possession of a Glock handgun on the campus of Southeastern Community College. He was taken into custody without further incident.
