
The weather is heating up and so are the events popping up around the county. Annual Easter egg hunts reign supreme, but don’t miss out on all the other fun activities in the area. Nothing is better than a weekend of baiting and casting, especially if you’re a kid. The fifth annual Yacunne Fish Camp is April 11-12 in Bolton, and everyone’s invited. The Waccamaw Siouan STEM Studio also needs volunteers for registration, rod rigging, and food service. Contact the STEM Studio via Facebook or the Waccamaw Siouan Tribal Center to sign up to help out.
If the gardening bug is biting you, the N.C. Cooperative Extension will be hosting their spring plant sale April 12 from. 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Call 910.640.6605 to find out how and where you can purchase your favorite foliage.
Bethel Church Methodist Church will be having their famous chicken dinner fundraiser on Saturday, April 12, beginning at 11 a.m. The plates are $12 each and will include chicken, potato salad, green beans, a roll, and dessert. The church can be found at 2733 M.M. Ray Road in Clarendon.

Columbus County Parks and Rec will once again throw out all the stops during their countywide egg hunt on April 12. Multiple hunts in multiple locations will take place beginning at 10 a.m. Visit the facility’s Facebook page for a list of places near you.
Pleasant Plains Church is getting into the Easter spirit this Saturday, April 12, for their yearly egg hunt. The event will begin at 10 a.m., and everyone is invited. The church is located at 31 Pleasant Plains Church Road in Whiteville.
St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church is still holding their weekly food bank every Thursday at 11 a.m. The church can be found at 507 Moneyhole Rd in Freeman.
The Lake Waccamaw Depot Museum will host two events in the middle of April. Bingo Night will be on Tuesday, April 15, starting at 6:30 p.m. The $5 entry fee covers the cost of your Bingo card. If music is your thing, the museum will also be hosting an acoustic jam session for local musicians who would like to join in. The music begins at 9 a.m. on April 19.
Engage Life Church will hold their annual children’s Easter celebration on Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. There will be finger foods, an egg hunt, and plenty of fellowship. The church is located at 386 Thompson Town Road in Whiteville.

Put on those skates and rollerblades and head down to Lake Waccamaw for a past time favorite. The Anchorage Christian Camp will hold church skate night April 18 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Cost is $15 per person, and kids five and under are free. If you’re looking to pick up some good eats and see some sweet faces, the Lake Waccamaw Methodist Women’s bake sale will be held on April 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Hills shopping plaza at the Lake. Pre-orders can be made by contacting the ministry via Facebook.
The Columbus Baptist Association mission team is gathering donations for the next Nicaraguan mission trip. Hard candy, coloring books, child-safe scissors, jump ropes, kitchen utensils, beach balls and other items are needed. Call 910.642.2155 to see how you can help. The deadline is June 10.
Nakina alum Raven Williamson is asking for submissions from anyone with photos and pictures from Nakina school circa 1952-1992. Copies of the pictures will be displayed in the restaurant in Nakina in June. Contact Williamson via Facebook if you would like to share your submission.
The Wall That Heals needs volunteers during its visit to the Veterans Memorial Park in April. Angela Norris of the park said 200 volunteers are needed to serve four-hour shifts around the clock, as well as helping set up and tear down the display. Hundreds of veteran motorcycle club members will escort the wall through Whiteville on April 23. The wall is a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Santana Mills and the Gurganus Feed Store are gearing up for their annual Spring Fling Flock Swap. The event will take place on April 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the store. There will be free hotdogs, food trucks, vendors, and a bouncy house and slide for the little ones. The Columbus County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services will be on site doing free rabies shots. Barbecue on the Bluff is April 26, and organizers have added a new event to the Fair Bluff favorite this year. The Oink-a-Walk along the riverwalk will see which little piggy makes it to the finish line. To sign up, go to fairbluff.com.
When you’re done with the BBQ in the Western part of the county, head over to Eastern Columbus for Lake Waccamaw’s Gator Fest. The vendor market opens at 10 a.m., while food trucks, live music, and family fun dominate the afternoon. Visit lakewaccamawnc.gov for a list of events and times.
