Deputies were forced to defend themselves from a dog that reportedly attacked them while they arrested a woman for blocking traffic Wednesday.

Amber Nicole Muse, 48, of 122 Bussy Rd., Hallsboro, was charged with impeding traffic and resisting an officer, according to Detention Center reports.

Deputies were called to the 3900 block of Sam Potts Highway to a report of a woman attempting to break into a house.  They found Muse in the roadway, where she behaved in an “aggressive” manner toward the deputies.

“When approached the female … ignored verbal commands and made threatening statement toward law enforcement,” the report said.

When the deputies attempted to take Muse into custody, the report said, her dog attempted to bite them. The dog was “deterred using less-lethal methods,” the report said.

Muse was out on bond at the time, facing charges of failure to appear, trespassing and resisting arrest. She had previously been arrested twice for shoplifting at the Hallsboro Dollar General. She was also found in a neighbor’s yard while her dog killed chickens earlier this year. Muse was held without bond.

Neither the dog or the deputies were  injured in the incident.
