Whiteville Police honored several of its officers at the April 22 council meeting, Chief Paul Rockenbach recognized Officer Adam Jens, Officer Marco Long, and Detective Joseph Ward for their quick response on September 10, 2024. The transported Sergeant Hal Arnold to Columbus Regional Healthcare during a medical emergency. The actions of these Officers contributed to saving Sergeant Arnold’s life. Officer Marco Long also received a Life Saving Award saving a choking infant on March 30.

It’s no secret there will likely be two more such awards handed out to Whiteville first responders. WFD Lt. Marquise Blanks and  WPD Lt. Scott Moody saved a dog from a burning home on Lee Street earlier this week. They used a donated oxygen mask made just for canines to revive the pup. She was transported to a Wilmington Emergency Vet by Whiteville Animal Control, and is expected to make a full recovery.
