After a three judge panel ruled the new law on election board appointments was constitutional Wednesday, State Auditor Dave Boliek didn’t waste any time making changes. Boliek appointed Republican members Stacy Eggers, who served on the most recent board; former state Sen. Bob Rucho; and Francis De Luca. For the Democrat members, Boliek picked appointees Siobhan O’Duffy Millen and Jeff Carmon, who also have been serving on the board with Eggers. He will begin choosing county board chairs in the coming days as they are nominated by local parties.
The rush to beat the Real ID deadline is jamming DMV license offices statewide. The Real ID will be required for domestic flights, entering some federal facilities after May 7. It’s issued through driver’s license offices. Lines for all DMV services at the Whiteville and Elizabethtown offices are wrapped around the sides of each building today.
Two people have now been charged in the April 13 shootout at Functionz in downtown Whiteville. Kapri McMillian, 34, was already in jail for the murder of Jaquez Cribbs about eight hours after the shootout on Madison Street.
