The Law Enforcement Torch Run supporting special Olympics passed through Whiteville Friday morning. The Torch Run is an annual tradition involving law enforcement officers from across the state. Whiteville Police Chief Paul Rockenbach led the runners. A number of personnel from several area agencies, including Department of Corrections, were part of the run.

 

Columbus County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services has a chocolate colored mare pony in custody. The pony was found walking down Haynes Lennon Highway Wednesday. You must have proof of ownership to claim the pony. Contact the shelter at 910-640-6609 if she’s yours.

 

Fire crews are gaining on the Sunset Road fire in Brunswick County, a week after it started. The fire is steady at 1,300 acres, and roughly 50 percent contained after intensive efforts yesterday and some welcome overnight rain.
