State and local law enforcement are out in force for the start of the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer for teens. Click It or Ticket It campaigns will be going on through June 1, with increased emphasis on seat belt and child seat usage. Wildlife officers will also be focusing on boater safety and sobriety with National Boating Safety Week underway.

 

The National Weather Service released its annual tropical forecast. After an exceedingly active and deadly 2024 season, conditions appear favorable for similar patterns this year. Emergency officials note that forecasts can quickly change, and now is the time to assemble your emergency kit and plan. Officials are reminding people to focus on the path of a storm, not its intensity. Last year’s “almost” tropical depression caused catastrophic flooding in Brunswick County and eastern Columbus, but never reached hurricane status.

 

Monday is the Clarkton Community Day Parade. Lineup is at 9:00 a.m. on the north end of 701 business at the E.J. Cox plant. The parade starts at 10:30. Arthur Bullock is this year’s grand marshal. For more information call 910.840.7241.
