Joshua Harris announced today (Wednesday) that he will not continue his run for Columbus County sheriff.
Harris is currently a member of Whiteville City Council, and a former Whiteville Police Officer as well as a former deputy. He is a 2011 graduate of Southeastern Community College.
Harris announced his departure on social media, as he announced his entry into the race in December. He was the third of four candidates to announce a run for the office. Chadbourn Police Chief Ken Elliott, appointed sheriff Bill Rogers and former deputy Josh McPherson are all in the race.
Harris, Rogers, Elliott and McPherson are all Republicans. No Democrat candidates have announced plans to run for the county’s top law enforcement job.
Filing for office begins in December for the March 2026 primary and November 2026 general election.
