
First responders are clearing trees from roads in western Columbus after a reported tornado touched down. There are unconfirmed reports of damage in Evergreen and Cerro Gordo, as well as the Chadbourn area. Areas from Chadbourn to Clarkton, and Whiteville to Bolton are under tornado watches and warnings.

There were reports of multiple trees down for one mile near Evergreen. Terry and Teresa Thompson said the twister went between their homes on Haynes Lennon Road, off N.C. 242 North. “It’s sounded just like a train,” Teresa said. Terry said the only damage on their property was to a number of pine trees. “They’re all twisted and broken about 20 feet up,” he said. “The houses are okay, and we are too. I just have a mess to clean up now. ” Utility crews are working to restore power on Mangum Road and in several other places.
