Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Today will be sunny and rather breezy in the wake of our cold front. Temperatures will be right around seasonal normal values, but dewpoint values will be in the mid 50s, so it will be quite the beautiful day.

A weak surface front will drop south over the area late tonight, resulting in a westerly low-level wind flow across the county. I believe this front may try to creep back towards the area during the day on Sunday, but another little boundary will tend to “shove” this towards the coast late Sunday night into Monday.

Meanwhile, enhanced lower-level moisture will trigger some scattered showers or thunderstorms, probably reaching Columbus County in the afternoon or evening on Sunday. There may be enough instability and shear that an isolated severe wind gust or some large hailstones may accompany storms on Sunday afternoon.

The front lies along the coast on Monday. A significant “cold pool” in the middle levels of the atmosphere, combined with the surface heating from the sun, could bring some isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms Monday afternoon. Given this cold air aloft, any storm that forms could produce hail.

High pressure then ridges into place by Monday night into Tuesday. Dry weather with building heat and humidity can be expected through the middle of the work week.

TROPICAL WEATHER FORECASTS RESUME TOMORROW!!  Spoiler alert – there are no concerns for the foreseeable future.
