Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Our story today is one of high pressure ridging in bringing sunny and warm conditions, but relatively low humidity for this time of year. This will last today and Monday.

The cold front that moved through late Saturday will return northbound as a warm front on Tuesday. This may kick off an isolated thunderstorm or two Tuesday afternoon, the humidity returns, and our highs reach the 90-degree mark.

Thunderstorm chances continue Tuesday night into Wednesday as a cold front approaches and crosses the area by Wednesday afternoon. There is some question in the guidance with regards to how much moisture will be available by the time the front gets here. Right now I’m hedging my bets on the potential for a broken line of thunderstorms to move through sometime on Wednesday… but my confidence is kind of low. (There are indications that there will be a lack of shear and a decent amount of dry air at the surface, both of which would signal a lack of thunderstorm activity). Our highs on Wednesday ahead of the front will be around 90.

Cool air really funnels in for Thursday through Friday… unseasonably cool air as highs on Friday will actually struggle into the lower 70s… with overnight lows in the lower 50s (possibly upper 40s). Temperatures will rebound after the holiday weekend though, averaging out to seasonal normal values.

TROPICAL WEATHER FORECASTS are returning. The official hurricane season begins on June 1st. As part of this blog next week I will be covering some hurricane climatology, safety pointers, etc., as we move into this season. Tropical outlooks will return as part of this blog on June 1st; however, if something develops sooner, I’ll be covering it.
