Area Schools Dish Out Summer Meals

Columbus County Schools and Whiteville City Schools have begun dishing out their summer meal programs this week. Chadbourn Elementary, Tabor City School, and Acme Delco Elementary will participate in the county program, and Whiteville will host their meals in the Edgewood Elementary cafeteria, as well as serving grab and go plates via their mobile food truck in communities all over the town.

In Columbus, children ages 1-18 years old are invited to come out and eat breakfast and lunch at one of the three schools participating, and no registration is required for the meals. The kids are required to eat in the cafeteria, but they do not have to be enrolled at the school to be eligible.

Chadbourn and Tabor City will serve breakfast from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday. The program will run through July 30 at these locations. Acme Delco will have breakfast from 7:45-8:30 a.m., and lunch will be prepared from 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. CES and TCS will end the program on July 30, and ADES will close their doors on July 23.

In observance of Independence Day, TCS and ADES will close June 30-July 7, and CES will close on July 2-3.

Whiteville City Schools will run their program Monday-Thursday through Aug. 7 in the Edgewood Elementary School cafeteria. Breakfast will be served from 7:30-9 a.m., and lunch will be eaten from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Approximate arrival times for the mobile food truck will be posted on the Whiteville City Schools’ Food and Nutrition page, and the grab and go meals will be given out to the children through Aug. 14.  Locations in the community include the following:
