A twin engine plane crashed north of Old Dothan Road Saturday, killing two people. Sheriff Bill Rogers said the crash occurred around 1 p.m. The six seat private plane was headed from Spartanburg to Myrtle Beach when it fell off radar near the state line, Rogers said.
Around 60 people concerned about a proposed 4,500 home development turned out for a question and answer session with Columbus County Commissioner Lavern Coleman. None of those in attendance at the meeting in Lake Waccamaw were in favor of the project.
Columbus County Commissioners Monday will be asked to approve the new municipal tax collection agreements. Lake Waccamaw, Chadbourn and Whiteville are not entering new contracts with the county.
A Fayetteville man has been charged with murder in the death of a missing Bladen County man. Nicolai Hibbing, 21, was arrested in Tennessee in connection to the death of William Lowry, 81 of Ammon. Lowry was last seen hitchhiking near his home in August. Hibbing allegedly bragged about killing animals and said he wanted to take a human life.
