Two people died in a plane crash near Dothan Saturday. Phillip and Cheryl Porter were killed when the twin engine Beechcraft went down after diverting from Grand Strand Airport due to stormy conditions. The plane was traveling more than 250 miles per hour when it hit the ground. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

The abandoned flock of domestic ducks at Lake Waccamaw has been captured. Holly Powell and her neighbors at Lake Waccamaw worked together to corral the ducks Sunday. Skywatch Bird Rescue of Wilmington is picking up a number of the birds medical evaluation.  Some have been adopted and taken to new homes.

A former Bladen County School Board member was charged with child sex offenses Thursday. Keith Edward Locklear faces charges in Columbus County and Bladen County. He is alleged to have groped a girl and dragged a boy by his hair.

The alligator that bit or clawed a girl Friday at Lake Waccamaw was more than twelve feet long. The girl’s uncle wounded the animal and drove it away. It was killed Saturday by Wildlife officers. The incident highlights the need to be aware of your surroundings in any area waterway.
