Columbus County Animal Protective Services has halted all but emergency intakes due to a massive number of surrenders or strays dogs and cats brought into the shelter this week. More than 50 animals came in on Monday alone.
The sheriff’s office is seeking a driver who allegedly ran over a puppy Sunday on purpose. The incident on Angela’s Court was caught on surveillance cameras. Anyone with information is asked to call the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office or file an anonymous tip via the CCSO app.
Farmers are encouraged to file their crop acreage reports before the July 15 deadline. The reports help with disaster assistance, crop insurance and other benefits.
