An investigation into a veterinary surgery shown on social media has resulted in 80 charges of animal cruelty against a Hallsboro woman.
Deborah Ross Dahl, 70, of 364 Pone Hill Road, was arrested this morning on 80 counts of animal cruelty and one of practicing veterinary medicine without a license, according to jail reports. She was held under $2,500 secured bond. Only nine cruelty warrants had been uploaded to court records at 1:30 p.m., but jail records show Dahl charged with 80 counts.
Dahl allegedly performed an operation on a bulldog in May, and uploaded video of the procedure to social media. She did not use proper medications or anesthesia the initial report said. Dahl is not a veterinarian.
Warrants show that she “unlawfully and willfully did intentionally … deprive of necessary sustenance an animal unknown breed canine”.
Columbus Animal Protective Services, the Sheriff’s Office and office of the State Veterinarian went to the Pone Hill property in May the investigate the alleged operation.
APS and the sheriff’s office are on the scene at the Pone Hill Road home today, taking custody of an unknown number of purebred dogs on the property. The shelter is currently at capacity due to a large number of recent intakes. The dogs seized from D ahl will be evaluated by a veterinarian and held until the case is adjudicated.
