Field Damaged, Cat Missing After Break-in

Someone broken into a home, released the family cat, left a shirt, and may have damaged a field near Tabor City Friday, without stealing anything of value.

A resident of the home in the 100 block of Country Lane called 911 after returning to the home and finding the front door ajar. Nothing was reported missing, the report said, except for the family cat.

Lights were turned on throughout the home, and dresser drawers were opened. A shirt the residents did not recognize was also found in a bedroom and taken into evidence.

A relative contacted the victims while deputies were there and said that someone appeared to have driven through a nearby cornfield. Damages to the crop were estimated at $500.

The investigation is continuing.
