Juneteenth Events Set for Area

Thursday is Juneteenth, marking the anniversary of when slaves in Texas became the last to find out they had been freed in 1865. M<Any professional and government offices will be closed for the holiday.

Thursday is the Juneteenth Community Day from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at West Whiteville Park, featuring food vendors and a cardio rodeo.

The Columbus County Juneteenth festival is Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on East Main Street. Look for music, food, educational booths, and more.

One of the biggest parades in the area is set for Elizabethtown Saturday at 11 a.m. The East Bladen High School Girls Volleyball team will serve as grand marshals this year. The Lady Eagles are back to back conference champions and have been to the Final Four twice.
