
A drug suspect had a modified AR-15 loaded with armor-piercing rounds when he was arrested May 29.
Dalvin Davonta Smith, 24, of 515 Pine Circle Dr., Tabor City, was held under $250,000 secured bond on charges of trafficking in opiates, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, marijuana and narcotics, and possession of a weapon of mass destruction, detention records show.
Vice-Narcotics detectives were on patrol in the Green Acres community when they began surveillance on Smith, according to a press release. When investiators saw suspicious activity, they stopped Smith.
Smith initially refused to cooperate with the officers, the release said, so one of the agents deployed a K9. Smith then complied with all command, the release said, and he “was safely detained without further incident.
Smith had the short barreled, fully automatic AR-15 concealed, the report said. It also had an extended magazine loaded with bullets designed to pierce body armor, according to the CCSO’s federal liaison with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. (ATF).
The firearm is now under further review by federal authorities, and the investigation will continue through the ATF Task Force pending judicial proceedings.
