VMPA to Hold Flag Ceremony; Wreath Sponsors Needed

The Veterans Memorial Park of America has proudly announced a series of events for 2025 that will bring together both the community and the veterans of Columbus County in remembrance and camaraderie. From flag ceremonies to meaningful memorials, the park is dedicated to serving those who served.

Flag Retirement Ceremony

The Veterans Memorial Park of America will host a flag retirement ceremony this Saturday, Flag Day, starting at 9:00 a.m. Anyone with a worn flag that has outlived its service may bring it for proper disposal.

Second Annual Freedom Fest

Mark your calendars for the second annual Freedom Fest happening on Saturday, July 5, from 9 a.m. 2 p.m. at the park. This free event is open to the public and promises a fun-filled day with vendors, food trucks, yard sellers, and kid-friendly activities.

Set-up for participants will take place on Friday, July 4, from 5-7 p.m. and on the morning of the fest from 7-9 a.m. For more information, call 910.640.8669.

150 Pheasant Buy-In Tower Shoot

Outdoor and hunting enthusiasts can look forward to the 150 Pheasant Buy-In Tower Shoot on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Honey Hill Hunting Preserve in Hallsboro. The entry free is $200 per shooter, and the start times will be at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.  Those interested can call 910.840.5207 for more details or to reserve your spot.

National Wreaths Across America Day

The park will also be participating in the National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, Dec. 13. The event’s mission is to remember, honor, and teach by placing wreaths on the graves of veterans during the holiday season.

Folks are encouraged to sponsor a wreath that will be placed at the following locations:

  • Veterans Memorial Park of America
  • Columbus Memorial Park
  • New Hope Baptist Church
  • Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery
  • Wright Cemetery
