Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Sunshine, showers, and storms. That’s going to be the rule into next week.

In meteorology, we call this a “persistence forecast.” Meaning, there just isn’t going to be an awful lot of change or variability in the day-to-day forecast for a period of time. In this case, at least the next 5-7 days.

A cold front that I have talked about ad nauseam for a few days will linger about our area today. This will be the focus for scattered showers and storms this afternoon and this evening. Storms could produce locally heavy rainfall and lots of lightning.

The front then retreats back to the north and west, and dissipates on Thursday. Strong summertime Bermuda high pressure takes hold from that point and will be the dominant feature in our weather pattern well into next week.

In the meantime, for Sunday and Monday modeling shows weak areas of “low” pressure underneath the Bermuda ridge, running right along the coast, enhancing the thunderstorm potential.

Overall, Thursday through Monday will feature increasing atmospheric instability and an abundance of moisture over the area. Any storm that forms has the potential to produce intense rainfall, continuous cloud-to-ground lightning, and may briefly become severe-warned for downburst winds.  Predicting the timing and locations of these storms is essentially impossible.  Some areas may receive nothing whatsoever, while others receive several inches of rainfall and repeated storms.

TROPICAL OUTLOOK: Nothing of interest in the tropical Atlantic. NHC outlook says no development for the next 7 days.
