Whiteville All-Stars defeated South Columbus All-Stars 7-4 in baseball on Thursday.
Whiteville struck first in the top of the first inning when Landen Singletary tripled to centerfield and Easton Spivey grounded out a sacrifice, with each scoring a run. Whiteville later added to their lead in the third after Landen Singletary grounded out and South Columbus committed an error, with each scoring one run.
Spivey pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief for the Whiteville All-Stars. Corben Mullins started for Whiteville. He gave up one run on one hit in 1 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking four. Eason Spivey in relief, gave up four hits while walking Four and striking out three. Cole Cartrette started for South Columbus All-Stars. The right hander relinquished three hits, six runs, (five earned), and walking four in four innings pitched.
Eason Spivey powered the middle of the lineup for Whiteville, going 1-3 with three RBI’s. Leadoff hitter Avery Harrellson led Whiteville AAA with two hits in two at bats. Dawson Soles paced Whiteville AAA All-Stars with three walks.
Whiteville showed poise and patience at the plate, garnering six walks for the game. Whiteville All-Stars went wild on the bases, with six steals during the game. Avery Harrellson stole three of the bases for Whiteville.
South Columbus had a keen eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Luke Powell, Colton Polston, Braylon Wright, and Justin McClure had a hit each for the South Columbus AAA All-Stars. Logan Lewis led South Columbus with two walks. Cole Cartrette also had two steals.
Whiteville AAA All-Stars finish as District 2 Champions and will play next in the State Tournament on July 11. The Whiteville All-Stars also won the Sportsmanship Award. South Columbus finishes as runner-up in the tournament.
