Whiteville High School teamed up with Columbus Recreation Department to host its Summer Basketball Camp June 23-25 at the Recreation Center.
More than 45 campers from ages 6-15 came to learn the fundamentals of basketball. On the first two session, kids worked on individual skills before moving up to team competition. Some of the skills taught were ball handling, dribbling, passing, pivoting, and shooting.
”The kids had fun,” Whiteville Women’s Basketball Coach Serena Smith said. “As long as we make it fun, the kids are likely to come back. Overall, I would say the camp was a huge success.” Smith also said she was excited about next year’s camp and is already looking into ways to improve on this year’s efforts.
