The woman facing dozens of animal cruelty charges has been arrested on additional warrants for abusing and neglecting rabbits.
Deborah Ross Dohl, 70, of 364 Pone Hill Rd., Hallsboro, was taken into custody a second time July 1 on 14 additional counts of cruelty to animals. She was ordered held without bond, according to court documents.
Dahl was arrested in June on 80 counts of cruelty to animals and one of operating on a dog without a medical license. She allegedly performed surgery on a bulldog and uploaded video of the procedure to social media, which ultimately led to her arrest.
Columbus Animal Protective Services, the sheriff’s office and state Veterinarian’s Office executed a search warrant on Dohl’s property June 24, seizing a number of dogs that were allegedly malnourished or abused. The intake came at a time when the shelter was already full to capacity.
APS seized more than 40 dogs in the initial raid, including Cane Corsos and English Bulldogs. They returned to the property with additional warrants Tuesday and Wednesday (today), confiscating a number of rabbits.
Under state law, none of the animals can be released until the case is adjudicated or the courts issue an emergency ruling. The animals will have to remain in custody at the shelter pending further court action.
The investigation is continuing.
