A Clarkton area woman was found dead in a stuck car with an intoxicated man and a toddler Friday, according to the Bladen Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the 100 block of Leach Bryant Road near Clarkton to investigate a disturbance, the BCSO said in a press release. Ashanta Hill, 35, was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat. The car was bogged down in a muddy area.
Cedric Williamson and the two year old were also in the vehicle. Williamson was allegedly assaulted by family members on the scene before law enforcement arrived, BCSO noted. He appeared to be impaired when deputies approached him.
The toddler was uninjured and turned over to Social Services.
Hill’s body was sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy.
In an unrelated case, Bladen County 911 received a report of shots being fired along spring Branch Road, near Tar Heel, Sunday around 12:30 a.m. The shooting occurred at a trial ride event that was still going on, BCSO said.
Deputies found Samir Tileek Register, 20, on the side of the road with at least one gunshot wound. He was given emergency medical care while EMS was en route, and later died at hospital of his injuries.
The sheriff’s office is treating the shooting as a murder investigation.
