News Briefs for July 21, 2025
Filing ended Friday for the November municipal elections. Contested races are on tap for the Whiteville and Lake Waccamaw Mayor’s seats, as well as town boards in Whiteville, Lake Waccamaw, Chadbourn and Tabor City.
State elections officials officially began work this week to reconcile more than 100,000 improperly registered voters on the rolls. Voters who registered without a form of identification were the focus of a lawsuit that came out of former state appeals court judge Jefferson Griffin’s challenge to his November loss to Allison Riggs. Voters will be contacted by mail, and asked to provide missing information in person, online or by mail.
This dangerous heat isn’t going anywhere just yet. Another heat advisory with the heat index will be pushing 107. Drink water, stay in the AC, watch your animals, children and our elderly.
