Neither heat, lightning, nor time could stop the Central Columbus Angels Sunday in a nine-inning thriller in Ruston, La., as they came back from 3-0 to win 4-3.

It was a pitcher’s duel with heat in the high 90’s and a 0-0 score going into the ninth. A lightning delay held up the game for an hour.

South Carolina went up 3-0 in the top of the ninth and the Angels needed a miracle. The Angels scored three in the bottom of the ninth and with the bases loaded. Gracie Rhodes scored the winning run with a game winning walk RBI from Gigi Williamson for the 4-3 win. They remain undefeated in World Series tournament play. They play Monday (today) at 3 p.m. EST (2 p.m. Central). On Saturday, they defeated Alabama 7-0.

Also in Ruston, the Central Columbus Darlings were eliminated Sunday losing to LA Caldwell 9- 0. Earlier, they lost to Virginia 11-10 on Saturday before defeating Tennessee 6-5 on Sunday morning. In South Carolina, The South Columbus Ponytails got hot early with nine runs in the first to defeat South Carolina 13-2. They play Monday at 5:30 p.m.
