
Deputy Devin Mason’s funeral will be held Tuesday at the high school where he is remembered as a model student and friendly, outgoing football player who wanted to be a law enforcement officer.
Mason, 27, was killed July when he and a fellow Darlington County, S.C. deputy exchanged gunfire with a wanted felon. The suspect, Cameron Ray Dennett, 25, died in the gunfight. Dennett’s mother and girlfriend also face charges in the ambush.
Mason’s partner was wounded but is expected to recover.
The deputy is lying in honor today from 6-8 p.m. at the Darlington County administrative building. He will be eulogized tomorrow at West Columbus High School. Visitation will be from 12-1:50 p.m., followed by a funeral with full honors. Interment at Williamson Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery will follow the funeral service.
Mason lived in Loris. He left behind a fiancé , Madi Palmer Church, and an infant son, Brooks James Mason as well as his mother, siblings and cousins.
