Fair Bluff Calls the Kids to the Market

The town of Fair Bluff has been making moves and starting grooves, and now they want to bring the kids and the community in on all the fun they are having at their next First Saturday Market. Every first Saturday of each month, the municipality has been opening up the property on Riverside Drive to vendors, artisans, and most  recently, farmers with livestock to sale. With the school year on the horizon, the Aug. 2 ‘Kids Day’ event will be dedicated to the youngsters before they head back and hit the books.

A fun-filled day in the sun is planned with lots of bubbles, a balloon toss, and a kid’s fishing contest. The children are asked to bring a towel because they may get a little wet. Backpacks donated by Clarice Faison, owner of Precious Minds Learn N’ Play Academy, filled with school supplies from the Fair Bluff Chamber of Commerce, will be given away at Kids Day.

From 7-11 a.m., the market will open it with the livestock and chicken swap. Don’t worry about the animals getting too hot because a shady area next to the Riverwalk will be provided for them to stay cool. The regular vendor market will run from 8 a.m.-until, and those interested in selling are asked to bring their own table, tents, and chairs.

Fishing contest registration for all ages will be on the entertainment stage. The tournament will run from 8-11:45 a.m. with weigh-in at noon. Participants are invited to fish along the banks of the Lumber River by foot or by boat as long as everyone is adhering to the N.C. Wildlife Commission fishing rules and regulations. Trophies will be handed out for largest flat fish, largest catfish, and largest bass.
