Deputies had to use a Taser on an impaired man who was allegedly knocking on windows along Rough and Ready Road June 30.
Dustin Rawls, 33, of 1327 Midway Rd., Whiteville, was charged with intoxicated and disruptive, assault on a government employee, property damage, and resisting an officer, detention center reports show. His bond was set at $25,000.
The sheriff’s office was called to a Rough and Ready Road home around 11:30 p.m. after a caller reported someone knocking on windows and walking around the property, the report said.
Deputies found Rawls standing in the roadway nearby. Rawls, who had “reportedly consumed a large quantity of alcohol,” the report said, refused to leave the road, so deputies placed him under arrest.
At that point Rawls allegedly began fighting with deputies. He managed to slip out of his handcuffs, and damaged a patrol car. Rawls continued fighting with deputies until he was Tasered. He sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.
