Contested races are on tap for several towns in Columbus in November’s municipal elections.
Filing closed today at noon at the county board of elections office. While several municipalities had no candidates to file except for incumbents, contested races will lead the ballot in several towns.
In Boardman, all members of the town council and the mayor signed up for reelection, and are not facing any competition. Mayor Eric Wiliamson and Tevis Britt, Donald Britt, Crystal Rogers, Minnie Turbeville, and James Smith are on the ballot.
Bolton Mayor Shawn Maynor faces no competition for the seat he has held for three terms, but incumbents Danny Brown, Barbara Graham and Kelvin Thurman are vying with challenger Gary Graham for the three seats on the board of aldermen.
In Brunswick, Curtis Hill is challenging members of that board of town commissioners. Incumbents are Alonzo McArthur, Ricky Mason, and Tammy Clark Blackmon.
Cerro Gordo has only incumbents on its ballot, with Mayor David Cliff White and town council members Jeffrey Greene, Tracey Blackwell, Lisa McKee Blackwell, and Debra Prince.
Two seats are up for grabs on the Chadbourn Town Council, with incumbent Rashad Roberts and Shannon Britt facing Drew Worley and Avala “Pepper” Nealy.
In Fair Bluff, Bradley Cutrell and John Wayne Phillips will face Grayson Jarvis and Clarice Faison for the two seats open on that board.
At Lake Waccamaw, East Ward Commissioner Teresa McKeithan did not file for reelection. Former Police Chief Scott Hyatt, and business man Lynn Hinnant have signed up for that seat. West Ward Commissioner Frank Carroll will be on the ballot alongside two newcomers, Charlyne Jacobs and Curt Andrews. Lake Waccamaw Mayor Matt Wilson was one of the first to file for reelection. He faces challenges from Chad Smith and Greg Jacobs.
In Sandyfield, incumbent board members Perry Dixon and Leonard “Pappy” Hall are unopposed.
Tabor City Councilman Lamont Grate has filed for another term. He will faces challenges from Chris Fowler, Mitchell Strickland, and Bryan Culbertson. Sam Rogers did not seek reelection to the town council.
