Tabor Talk for July 23, 2025

By Dianne Ward Nobles

Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce

Here we are already a little more than a month into our official summer season and it has certainly been a hot few weeks.  We have had many heat waves through the years, but that doesn’t make it any easier while we are currently experiencing these sweltering temperatures.

As the hot days continue, please take time to check on the elderly and others that may not be able to handle this heat.  We are #taborcityproud and we are #strongertogether, so let’s show our neighborly love and respect to one another.  Let’s help when and where we can.

There is one thing for sure…our area businesses have their air conditioners humming.  Just stop in to do some shopping or purchase school supplies and you will stay cool as you do.

Keep your eyes open for those Back-to-School sales that will soon begin.  Can you believe it?  School starts back next month and lots of parents are already making school supplies and school clothes purchases.

As always, #TryTaborCityFirst for all of your shopping needs.  It is important to #shoplocal.

Anytime you are out and about please be sure to patronize those that support our local endeavors, local churches, our sports teams, etc.  The more we spend with our locals, the more likely they are to contribute when we have a need and go calling.

Our Chamber office is busy trying to wrap up the last details of our past few events.  We take a little time to catch our breath in late July and early August as we dive into planning our holiday events.  Several have been asking about the Christmas Cookie Crawl.  Yes, it will most definitely return.  That event has grown each year and we anticipate more cookie crawlers this year.  It has become a new highlight of the holidays and is making its mark as a new family tradition.

As traditions go, Tabor City and the surrounding areas are only a few short months away from the N.C. Yam Festival.  They are telling us that they could still use a few good volunteers.  If you are willing to commit and dedicate some time, please contact the Yam Fest office at 910.377.3248.

The Yam Festival Board and Committee Chairs have events in mind to add, but they need more volunteers to make that happen.  Please give this some serious thought.  If you want to see even more events in the future, or have an idea of an event to suggest, please step up and dedicate some time as a volunteer to make that happen.  Let’s help the N.C. Yam Festival Association make sure this festival is here for future generations.

The Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce looks forward to serving our community.  This is a membership driven organization.  We would love to have you join the GTC Chamber of Commerce family. Simply give us a call and together we will make that happen. The number is 910.377.3012. Remember that memberships must be renewed annually to remain a member continuously.

The days and hours of operation are Tuesday thru Thursday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Should you need assistance outside of these days and hours, please call our EVP on her cell phone at 910.840.0292.

Remember that we remain “Stronger Together”.
