Wells ‘Run Dry’ for Drug Suspect

Joseph David Wells. (CCSO Detention)

A domestic violence warrant led to multiple narcotics charges and no bond for a Whiteville-area man.

Joseph Daniel Wells, 36, of 37 Ruth Stanley Lane, was held under no bond on charges of domestic violence, maintaining a vehicle for drug activities, and possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver opiates, according to Detention Center reports. He was out on bond on narcotics charges at the time of his arrest.

The sheriff’s office said Wells was taken into custody on drug charges Tuesday by the Vice/Narcotics Division, who confirmed that Wells also had an outstanding warrant for domestic violence. Additional charges came from a prior investigation that showed Wells was allegedly selling oxycodone from his 2008 Chevrolet Equinox.

The arrest and additional charges in this case serve as a strong reminder that our Vice/Narcotics Division is committed to more than just making arrests or ‘meeting numbers’,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “They’re focused on building complete cases and ensuring that those who repeatedly break the law are held accountable.

“Even though the new felony drug charges stem from a previous investigation, this arrest was an opportunity for our investigators to close that loop and move the case forward in the justice system<’ the release said. “The fact that Mr. Wells was already out on bond at the time underscores the importance of thorough follow-up and long-term monitoring of known offenders.”

“This case is a perfect example of how our investigators don’t just make an arrest and move on,” said Sheriff Bill Rogers. “They stay with it. They build the bigger picture. They make sure nothing slips through the cracks.”
