William Michael Spivey was born September 28, 1947 and passed June 30, 2025 to join his Heavenly Father.
Belovedly known as Mike, he will be deeply missed by his family, friends and his work family.
Mike was born in Whiteville, NC where he resided most of his life and loved spending time at his Ocean Isle Beach cottage.
Mike graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BS in Business Administration. Mike traveled for several years working in different states and left Union Carbide in Ohio to return to Whiteville in 1975 to work with his father’s business, Whiteville Body Shop, Inc, established in 1952. Mike and his father, Richard, worked closely together for 31 years. Mike continued working at WBS daily despite his recurrence of Transverse Myelitis recently.
Mike loved the outdoors. He grew up riding horses and one of his favorite memories was horseback riding in the Grand Tetons in Wyoming. His passion in the outdoors was offshore fishing and hunting.
He was an avid Carolina fan and followed his beloved Tar Heels in basketball, football and baseball. He enjoyed collecting western horse saddles, spurs, blankets and ropes on his trips to Wyoming and Montana.
Mike was predeceased by his parents; Richard Coleman Spivey and Frances Rivenbark Spivey. Left to cherish him and his memories are his loving wife of 40 years Laura Fisher Spivey, son Dr. Zachary Spivey of Mount Pleasant, SC, son Will Spivey of Candler, NC, daughter Susan King of Supply, NC, grandsons John Coleman King and Luke Spivey King, many cousins, nieces, nephews, other close family members and his black lab companion, Cooper.
